Why Project Management Matters
When I tell people I'm the project leader, I am often the first Ah …. Neat! "Answer that is often followed by a comment which is something along the lines of" So …. What are you doing? "Sometimes, when I talked to a developer of software that can take a little smile, a clear indication that they had experience in collaboration with the project director poor, an issue I addressed in future articles.
What I say is that not only is there some way to go before the practice of project management is understandable, but more to do before they are assessed more broadly than it is today »Hui. To learn how this can be assessed properly if they are not well understood;
This does not mean that the practice of project management is not highly regarded in many organizations. Indeed, many companies have established offices of Project Management, Project Management Institute is the explosion of popularity, and it seems that the number of openings in project management more than the supply of project management. However, often times organizations have adopted this practice, and in an economy where just under half the workforce employed by small businesses is a significant number of organizations have never used project management, and more workers who have never worked with a project manager. Paradoxically, these are small businesses that could quickly and painlessly reap the benefits of project management.
What exactly is a project management does a project manager do? According to the Project Management Institute (PMI) "project is a unique temporary effort, with a beginning and end." And "More formally, PMI defines management project as "the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques for a wide range of activities to meet the requirements of a particular project. "The second part can not tell you much diving deeper into the issue, but we will focus on the former yet. To understand project management is very important to understand that a project is unique, temporary Endeavor with a specific goal. Project management is not operational. And if a business objective standards can a plan and a plan at the end may be made in practice, the two are very different.
Now that we are clear on what a project can move forward in a more formal definition given above. Essentially, this means that project management is the methodology used to achieve the objective of the project. Therefore, a project manager is someone who has knowledge "necessary skills, tools and techniques" to manage a unique initiative to ensure that it meets its objectives.
Even knowing all this, yet it may be clear to you what makes a Project Manager. The project is a bit like the manager of the baseball team. Ensure that the objective is clear, understandable to all team, all interested parties (stakeholders) were contributing to the work that all the necessary work out that each team member knows what they are responsible for ensuring that risks are identified and contingency plans are created, make sure that all work is completed on time, etc. etc. etc. The list of course is still long. The reason I use the analogy of a baseball manager is because when some people hear what a project manager believe that you do not even project manager. The first think that if everyone in the team have done their work, the project will succeed, even in the absence of a project manager. This may be true, however, the same way that a baseball team does not need a manager to play a baseball game. It could be done, and could win, even games, but will not win the World Championship. The same applies to the projects. If the project manager that there are some points to be made, it is certain that there will be delays, cost overruns, quality will suffer, and that the final result may be quite different that the work is necessary. Ultimately, management accounts work for the same reason, the management of baseball, because if a baseball game or introduce a new product or service, winning matters.
